Tahiti
Shooting Teahupo’o in Tahiti during the pre-Olympic training sessions was an experience I’ll never forget. The energy in the water was palpable, with surfers pushing themselves at one of the most dangerous and awe-inspiring waves on the planet. It was a privilege to witness the sheer dedication and skill on display, especially among the women. Athletes like Carissa Moore, Sanoa Olin, Anat Lelior, and Sara Taylor charged the massive, hollow waves with unwavering fearlessness. Watching them navigate Teahupo’o’s raw power and its razor-sharp reef with such determination and grace was nothing short of inspiring.
The camaraderie and competitive spirit in the lineup added another layer of magic to the experience. With the upcoming WSL contest also looming, it felt like the calm before the storm—a time for these athletes to test their limits and refine their craft under intense yet supportive conditions. Capturing their focus, exhilaration, and occasional relief as they threaded the needle through some of the world’s heaviest barrels was an honour. It highlighted how far women’s surfing has come and offered a glimpse into the incredible future that lies ahead.
A huge thank you to Domenic Mosqueira and Tahurai Henry for showing us the ropes!
